Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has lauded Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for what he termed their “excellent performance” in steering the country out of challenges and presenting a pro-people budget.
Speaking to media at Avenfield Apartments in London, Nawaz Sharif expressed optimism about Pakistan's future, saying the country is finally overcoming difficulties and moving towards development.
“Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz are doing a great job. Pakistan seems to be coming out of a period of decline and entering a phase of progress. If this continues for the next eight to 10 years, all our troubles will end,” he said.
Praise for budgets
Nawaz Sharif congratulated both leaders for presenting what he described as a people-friendly and forward-looking budget.
“This budget is a positive step towards public relief and national development,” he said, adding that their efforts reflect sincere intentions and commitment to improving the lives of ordinary citizens.
He attributed the recent improvements in Pakistan’s economic and political climate to both effective leadership and divine blessings.
'Pakistan a nuclear power for peace'
Nawaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s status as a nuclear power, reaffirming that the country’s nuclear capability is meant to ensure peace, not provoke conflict.
“We did not make this nuclear bomb for war, but for peace,” he said. “Pakistan is fortunate that it is a nuclear power today.”
Solidarity with Iran
Commenting on regional developments, the former premier criticized any military aggression against Iran and reiterated Pakistan’s support for its neighbour.
“What kind of humanity is it to attack Iran?” Nawaz asked. “We stood with Iran in the past and will continue to do so.”
