Iran on Friday warned that the United States would also bear responsibility for the consequences of Israel’s deadly airstrikes on Tehran, which killed several senior Iranian military officials and nuclear scientists earlier in the day.
In a strongly-worded statement, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said it had a “legal and legitimate” right under the United Nations Charter to respond to Israel’s aggression, adding that the airstrikes had been coordinated with Washington.
“The dangerous and far-reaching effects and consequences of the Zionist regime’s aggression against our beloved homeland of Iran will be the responsibility of this regime and its supporters,” the statement read.
The Foreign Ministry further alleged that Israel’s actions could not have occurred without the direct knowledge and approval of the United States.
“The Zionist regime’s aggressive actions against Iran cannot have been carried out without the coordination and authorization of the United States. Accordingly, the United States government, as the main supporter of this regime, will also be responsible for the dangerous effects and consequences of the Zionist regime’s adventure,” the ministry said.
The remarks come hours after Israel launched a series of coordinated airstrikes on key targets in Tehran, killing top figures including Iran’s military chief General Mohammad Bagheri, IRGC commander-in-chief Major General Hossein Salami, and two leading nuclear scientists.
