Preparation of the Ghilaf-e-Kaaba is currently underway at the Kiswa factory.
The covering, made from high-quality silk, gold and silver, is completed over a period of ten months. A total of 159 workers are involved in the preparation of the Ghilaf-e-Kaaba.
Materials used in the Ghilaf-e-Kaaba are imported from Italy and Germany.
It is pertinent to note that a new Kiswah is draped over the Kaaba every year due to the sanctity of the holy site.
The old Kiswah is distributed to various charitable organisations around the world.
Traditionally, the process of replacing the Kiswah took place on the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah. However, in 2022, this was moved to the first day of Muharram.
The new Kiswah comprises four separate panels and a curtain for the door. Approximately 850 kilograms of raw silk—dyed black within the complex—are used in its creation, along with 120 kilograms of gold wire and 100 kilograms of silver wire.
