Apple is reportedly preparing to launch an updated MacBook Pro lineup later this year, featuring its next-generation M5 chip series, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
While not a revolutionary update, the refresh is said to be “a lock” and in line with Apple’s annual upgrade cycle.
What’s new in the 2025 MacBook Pro?
The upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will feature the M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max chips, built on TSMC’s 3nm N3P process — an improved version of the process used in previous Apple Silicon chips. Performance gains are expected to be incremental rather than groundbreaking.
Though the hardware design remains unchanged this year, rumours suggest the 2026 MacBook Pro will receive a major overhaul, including an OLED display, a thinner and lighter chassis, and other significant upgrades.
Wi-Fi 7 & connectivity upgrades
While not confirmed, the M5 MacBook Pros will likely support Wi-Fi 7, aligning with expected features in the iPhone 16 lineup. Apple skipped this connectivity upgrade in its M4 models, which launched earlier.
Expected launch timeline
Apple traditionally unveils MacBook Pro refreshes in October, and 2025 should be no exception. The M5 MacBook Pro models are expected to launch alongside the new M5-powered iPad Pro lineup.
Should You wait or buy now?
If you’re considering a new MacBook Pro, it may be worth either grabbing a discounted M4 model now or waiting until 2026 for the major design revamp.
Apple’s M5 MacBook Pro refresh is shaping up to be a solid internal upgrade, but those looking for design innovation should hold out for 2026. For now, it’s a performance bump, not a revolution.
