The Punjab Home Department has issued a directive to include "Good Touch, Bad Touch" awareness in school curricula as part of efforts to prevent child abuse incidents across the province.
In an official communication to the School Education Department, provincial authorities emphasized the need to incorporate personal safety education into early classroom instruction. The directive specifically calls for age-appropriate content that teaches children to identify appropriate and inappropriate physical contact.
"Teaching children about personal safety has become a necessity in today's environment," stated the official correspondence. The document outlines plans to develop modules that explain physical boundaries in a manner suitable for young students.
The initiative will focus on empowering children with knowledge about reporting mechanisms for inappropriate behavior, both at home and in public spaces. Education officials have been instructed to collaborate with child protection experts to develop appropriate teaching materials.
"Children who experience sexual abuse may suffer lifelong trauma," the communication noted, highlighting the preventive nature of the educational intervention. The Home Department stressed that children should be taught not to fear potential abusers but rather to expose such individuals.
According to provincial authorities, this curriculum addition represents a protective measure designed to safeguard vulnerable children. The Home Department is simultaneously developing a broader awareness campaign through the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau focusing on the "Good Touch, Bad Touch" concept.
