The move to abolish the law of lifetime disqualification in the Elections Act has been challenged in the Lahore High Court.
The Election Commission of Pakistan, federal government and others have been made parties in the petition.
The petition has been submitted by advocate Nadeem Sarwar on behalf of citizen Mashkoor Hussain.
The petition has sought that the act of amending the Elections Act be declared null and void.
The petition has adopted the stance that by amending the Elections Act, the period of lifetime disqualification has been abolished to five years. The Supreme Court has already interpreted Article 62(f)(1) of the Constitution, it stated.

Amending the law after the interpretation of the Supreme Court is a violation of Section 3 of Article 175 of the Constitution, the petition stressed.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan has issued the election code of conduct. Local and foreign media and commentators will not express bias and preferences for any political party or candidate.
While publishing preliminary results, it will be mentioned that these are unofficial and incomplete results, and they will not be considered final until declared by the returning officer.
According to the code of conduct, the national media will take full care of Pakistan's ideology and sovereignty during the election campaign. The media will not air biased opinions against the independence and integrity of the security, judiciary and other national institutions.
