Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa has said that every citizen has the right to disagree with the judiciary.
The CJP made these remarks during a speech he delivered at the launch event of the e-campus of the Federal Judicial Academy in Islamabad.
The academy is functioning under a strong board, which includes important personalities. He further said that it was only when he became chief justice that he found out he was also the chairman of the Federal Judicial Academy.
CJP Isa suggested the subordinate judiciary officers benefit from each other's experiences, adding that 3,200 judges are performing their duties across the country.
“I am happy that technology is being used in the judiciary. Broadcasting the court proceedings live gives an opportunity to the judges and others to learn,” Justice Isa told the audience.
Every citizen had the right to disagree with the judiciary, he added.
“Transparency has been ensured regarding the live broadcast of court proceedings,” he informed the gathering, adding that legal students can also benefit from the live telecast of cases.
Presently, he further said, it has become a trend that every issue lands directly in the Supreme Court, adding that to save the system, this development needs to be abolished.
“Those who file fabricated cases should be discouraged,” the CJP said, adding that damages should be imposed on those filing such cases.
CJP Isa said the live broadcast of public interest cases is also a means of education, adding that it provides an opportunity for judges, lawyers and civilians to learn.
However, he said, there were some downsides to live broadcasting as well, explaining that when he would go home, his wife would tell him he wasn’t sitting properly during a hearing.
“Technology is also a tool like a pen, just like a pen was a tool mentioned in the holy Quran,” Chief Justice Isa said, stressing on the use of technology.
