Indian batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has set a new record by scoring the fastest half-century in List A cricket history, reaching the landmark in just 11 balls on Sunday.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) praised the 15-year-old after his performance in an India A match against Sri Lanka A in Dambulla. In a post on X, the BCCI wrote: “Fast. Faster. Vaibhav,” adding that the teenager put on a notable display in Dambulla. Sooryavanshi went on to score 94 runs from 29 deliveries as India A posted a total of 377 for nine.
He reached his fifty in only 11 balls, setting a new benchmark for the quickest half-century in List A, the 50-over format, according to multiple media reports.
The left-handed batter has been named in India’s T20 squad for tours to Ireland and England, as well as the Asian Games, following his performances in this year’s Indian Premier League.
He is in line to become India’s youngest player, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar, who made his Test debut in 1989 at the age of 16 years and 205 days.
It is pertinent to note that Sooryavanshi has remained in the spotlight since his IPL displays, where he scored 776 runs for Rajasthan Royals and finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer. He recorded one century and five half-centuries during the season, earning the Orange Cap for the highest run aggregate.
