The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) nominated on Saturday Advocate Amjad Hussain as its candidate for the office of Gilgit-Baltistan chief minister.
Sources divulged on Saturday that Amjad Hussain Advocate is currently the PPP's GB chapter president. He has been elected twice as a member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, and the party leadership has termed him as a suitable nominee for the post of chief minister.
It is noted that the PPP holds 13 seats in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, while 17 seats are required to form a government.
A decision has been reached for the formation of a government under a political understanding between PML-N and PPP.

According to the PPP on X, detailed consultations were held between the local leadership and organisations of the PPP and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Gilgit-Baltistan. Following mutual trust and consensus, a decision was taken to form a coalition government, with both parties expressing commitment to political stability, public welfare and strengthening democratic values.
Under the proposed arrangement, the GB chief minister will be from the PPP. The office of GB governor will be held by the PML-N. The leader of the opposition will belong to the PML-N, while the post of the GB deputy speaker of will also be allocated to the same party.
Both parties have stated that the agreed power-sharing formula reflects mutual consultation and political harmony. They have said that addressing challenges in GB, resolving public issues, accelerating development, and strengthening democratic institutions require political stability.
The parties have reiterated that they will work beyond personal and party interests for national interest, public service, and the prosperity of Pakistan. The arrangement is being viewed as a step towards political tolerance, national unity, and democratic continuity in GB.
