India secured a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the third ODI at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday, completing a 3-0 series sweep.
Afghanistan, batting first, were dismissed for 218 in 44.2 overs. Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi led the innings with a composed 102, while Azmatullah Omarzai contributed 50.
India’s bowling attack was spearheaded by Prasidh Krishna, who returned figures of 5 for 23. He removed the top order early and finished the innings with his maiden five-wicket haul in ODI cricket.
Chasing 219, India reached the target in 28.4 overs for the loss of one wicket. Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 110, while Rohit Sharma scored 79 before being dismissed. Shreyas Iyer added an unbeaten 20.
India had earlier built a commanding opening stand of 170 between Jaiswal and Rohit, which effectively settled the contest.
The result confirmed India’s clean sweep in the three-match series, which forms part of early preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup cycle.
