The government and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have stepped up efforts to bridge differences over the federal budget, with a committee tasked with finding a new path of understanding to ensure the approval of Budget 2026-27.
According to sources, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and the Governor of Sindh have taken responsibility for resolving outstanding issues between the two sides.
The development came during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq, and senior PPP leaders.
PPP Chief Whip Ijaz Jakhrani and Abdul Qadir Patel also attended the meeting.
PPP reservations reviewed
Sources said the participants reviewed the PPP's reservations regarding the federal budget and also discussed the country's law and order situation.
Efforts are underway to develop a consensus on a mechanism that would guarantee implementation of the PPP's key demands, with both sides exploring ways to move forward through dialogue.
Delegation to meet Bilawal Bhutto
According to sources, a high-level delegation is expected to meet Bilawal Bhutto Zardari after receiving firm assurances from the federal government regarding the party's concerns.
The meeting is expected to play a crucial role in determining the PPP's support for the budget and in easing tensions between the coalition partners.
The latest consultations reflect ongoing efforts by the government to secure broader political consensus ahead of the budget's approval in parliament.
Sources said both sides remain engaged in negotiations, with the focus on reaching an understanding that addresses PPP concerns while ensuring the smooth passage of the budget.
