US President Donald Trump has announced that a deal with Iran is “all signed” from the American side, though he did not clarify whether Tehran has formally signed the agreement.
Speaking alongside French President Emmanuel Macron in Evian-les-Bains, France, Trump said the agreement marks a major breakthrough and claimed that the Strait of Hormuz is already partially reopening.
“The deal’s all signed, and the Strait is already partially opened,” Trump said, adding that the waterway would be “completely open” by Friday.
Iran will not have nuclear weapons: Trump
Trump reiterated that Iran “will not have a nuclear weapon” under the agreement, stating that Tehran had accepted this condition.
“They agreed to that,” he said, adding that enforcement would depend on “strong policing” of the deal.
He also suggested that relations could improve if commitments are upheld, warning that failure to comply could reverse progress.
Sanctions relief tied to compliance
The US president further clarified that Iran would only receive sanctions relief if it meets its obligations under the agreement.
“It’s really a behavioural thing. If they do what they’re supposed to do, that starts taking effect,” Trump said.
He stressed that economic benefits would be conditional on compliance rather than immediate.
