The Economic Survey for fiscal year 2025-26 has revealed that various sectors were granted a total of Rs8,182 billion in tax exemptions over the past two years.
According to the survey, these exemptions were provided under the heads of income tax, sales tax, and customs duty, and are termed as tax expenditures. In the fiscal year 2024-25, tax relief amounting to Rs5,840 billion was recorded.
In the fiscal year 2025–26, a further Rs2,352 billion in tax exemptions was extended. Sales tax relief stood at Rs1,273 billion, covering both imports and domestic supply of goods.
Income tax exemptions were reported at Rs560 billion , while customs duty relief amounted to Rs499 billion.
The survey added that beneficiaries of these exemptions included the former tribal areas, CPEC-related projects, and the automobile sector, along with tax credit schemes.
