New Zealand expect opening batsman Devon Conway to be available for next week's second Test against England at The Oval despite making a 23,000-mile (37,000-kilometre) return journey to Wellington for the birth of his second child.
Conway scored one and 41 in New Zealand's 115-run defeat in the first Test at Lord's, a result which left the tourists trailing 1-0 in the three-match series.
The batter has returned to New Zealand to be with his wife for the birth of their second child and is expected to rejoin the squad before the second Test begins at The Oval on June 17.
In a statement issued on Thursday, New Zealand Cricket said Conway had briefly returned home to welcome the birth of his second child and would spend time with his family before flying back to London ahead of the second Test.
New Zealand captain Tom Latham also expressed hope that fast bowler Matt Henry would be fit for selection at The Oval after suffering back spasms on the opening day of the first Test.
Henry bowled only 15 overs during the match at Lord's. Latham said the paceman's condition was being assessed on a day-by-day basis and added that he was progressing positively since the opening day of the series.
