Pakistani actor Laila has spoken out against what she calls an “unwelcoming” attitude in Karachi’s entertainment industry. Her remarks come as she prepares for her television debut.
Laila began her career at just 14 and went on to establish herself in both films and television.
Known for her candid personality, she has often shared her personal struggles and growth over the years.
The actor is now set to return to TV with a project written by Khalil ur Rehman Qamar, marking a significant step in her career.
‘Replaced over rumours’
Laila revealed that she had finalized dates for a drama and was ready to travel to Karachi for the shoot.
However, she received a last-minute call informing her that producers had heard she was “hard to work with,” leading to her replacement.
She described the incident as a deeply negative start to her television comeback, raising concerns about how decisions are made in the industry.
Laila openly criticized the Karachi-based industry, saying it fails to recognize or welcome established artists.
She argued that actors with strong fan followings are often overlooked despite their potential to boost a project’s success
Referring to fellow actor Meera, Laila pointed out that despite delivering a hit film like Baaji, she is now producing her own projects instead of being cast more widely.
Lahore vs Karachi
Laila compared Karachi with Lahore’s past industry environment, stating that Lahore used to be more inclusive and supportive of artists.
She also urged Karachi’s entertainment circles to be more open-minded toward artists from Punjab, highlighting what she sees as a regional bias.
