Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stressed the need to formulate a comprehensive strategy for the export of food items to Gulf countries.
Chairing a review meeting on the country’s food situation and exports in Pakistan, the prime minister directed authorities to ensure complete monitoring of the supply and demand of food items to safeguard domestic requirements.
Officials informed the meeting that Pakistan currently holds ample stocks of food items and that there is no shortage of any commodity.
The prime minister said disruptions in global supply chains had led to an increase in the demand for Pakistani products across the region.
He directed that a comprehensive plan be prepared for the export of food items to Gulf countries and emphasised that high standards must be maintained while exporting food products to friendly Gulf states.
The prime minister also instructed ambassadors and trade officers posted in Gulf countries to remain active in promoting Pakistani exports.
He further directed the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation to take steps to facilitate the export of goods to Gulf countries through sea routes.
The meeting was briefed on existing food reserves and production. Officials said there was significant export potential in agricultural commodities, meat, poultry, dairy products and seafood.
The prime minister also directed the formation of a committee to review the situation on a daily basis.
