Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al Ansari has said that Iran did not give prior notice before launching missile strikes in Qatar.
Addressing a press conference in Doha, the spokesman said the attacks were not confined to military installations but targeted various locations across the country. An attempt was also made to strike Hamad International Airport, which was thwarted.
He said there is at present no contact with Iran. He added that there is no information regarding the presence of any Mossad cell in Qatar. An Iranian aircraft entering Qatari airspace was warned and subsequently shot down after it attempted to advance towards Doha. A search for the crew is under way.
The spokesman said it is incorrect to suggest that pressure on Gulf states would lead to a return to negotiations.
He stated that the closure of airspace has left 8,000 people stranded in Qatar. They will be hosted until conditions improve. Many passengers are also stranded on cruise ships but are safe.
