The International Cricket Council is considering changes to the T20 World Cup schedule after Bangladesh declined to play its matches in India over serious security concerns, triggering fresh uncertainty around the tournament’s planning.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has officially refused to send its team to India for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.
According to Indian media, the decision was taken after reports of threats from extremist elements, which the board said posed an unacceptable security risk to players and officials.
Request made to shift matches
Sources said the Bangladesh Cricket Board formally requested the International Cricket Council to move its World Cup fixtures out of India.
The board proposed Sri Lanka as an alternative venue, citing its experience in hosting international matches under high-security conditions.
ICC considering schedule revision
Following Bangladesh’s refusal, the ICC has started evaluating changes to the tournament schedule, Indian media reported. Officials are said to be assessing logistical, broadcast and competitive implications before finalizing any adjustments.

Alongside a venue shift, a hybrid model is also being considered for Bangladesh’s participation. Under such a model, Bangladesh could play its matches at neutral venues while the rest of the tournament continues as planned in India.
Official announcement expected soon
Indian media reports suggest the ICC is likely to make an official announcement within the next few days once consultations with member boards and host authorities are completed.
Until then, uncertainty remains over Bangladesh’s match venues and the overall World Cup schedule.
The development highlights how security considerations continue to influence international cricket scheduling, especially for high-profile global events.
The ICC’s decision will be closely watched, as it could set a precedent for handling similar situations in future tournaments.

According to a BCB spokesperson, the decision was taken due to concerns over the safety and security of the Bangladesh team. An emergency meeting of the board of directors was convened on the matter, after which the decision was finalised in consultation with the government.
In a statement, the board said the step was unavoidable to ensure the protection of players and officials. It said the Bangladesh team would not travel to India for the tournament under the prevailing circumstances. The ICC has been asked to shift the matches to another country.
