The Azad Kashmir government has issued a travel advisory for tourists ahead of a protest call for June 9, asking visitors to avoid entering the region from June 5 to June 20.
The government has also requested tourists and others already present in Azad Kashmir to leave the region’s borders by the evening of June 5 to avoid inconvenience.
According to the advisory, tourists should avoid travel and entry to Azad Kashmir from June 5 to June 20 in view of the protest call issued for June 9. The government said people who have arrived in Azad Kashmir for tourism or other purposes should leave by the evening of June 5.
Officials said the step has been taken so visitors do not face any problems during the security measures linked to the protest.
Security arrangements tightened
Following the protest call in Azad Kashmir, security arrangements have been tightened across the region. The Azad Kashmir government has also requested the federal government to provide additional security support.
In response, the federal government has decided to send Islamabad Police personnel to Azad Kashmir.
More than 1,500 Federal Police personnel will perform special duty in Azad Kashmir. The police contingent will include one DIG, two SSPs and four SPs.
It will also include eight DSPs, 16 inspectors and 22 sub-inspectors. The special duty contingent will include 70 assistant sub-inspectors and 1,382 constables.
Personnel have been drawn from several units, including CTD, CPC, Safe City, Security Division and Operation Division. Officials from the Logistics Division, Islamabad Traffic Police, ATS and Special Branch have also been included in the deployment.
Govt aims to prevent public inconvenience
The advisory and additional deployment come as authorities prepare for the June 9 protest call.
The Azad Kashmir government has urged tourists and other visitors to follow the instructions so they can avoid difficulties during the tightened security arrangements.
