The apartment building immortalised by the hit American sitcom Friends has been sold for a staggering $32.7 million, once again drawing attention from fans around the world who associate it with one of television’s most beloved shows.
The six-storey building, located at 90 Bedford Street in Manhattan’s West Village, became globally recognisable after appearing in Friends establishing shots when the show first aired in 1994.
Although no interior scenes were filmed there, the exterior became synonymous with the fictional home of Monica, Rachel, Joey and Chandler, with Ross and Phoebe completing the iconic group.
The show starred Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer and Lisa Kudrow, turning the building into a pop culture landmark.
Over the years, it has remained a popular stop for tourists visiting New York, eager to see the place tied to the long-running sitcom.
Details of the property
The property consists of 21 residential units, ranging from one- to four-bedroom apartments.
Its ground-floor retail space is currently home to Little Owl, a well-known Mediterranean restaurant that has become part of the building’s charm.
The building last changed hands in February 2024, when Wharton Properties, led by Jeff Sutton, purchased it for $18.25 million.
Following the purchase, several apartments were renovated, significantly increasing the property’s market value within a short span of time.
Who bought the ‘Friends’ building?
The latest buyer is JP Real Estate Group Limited, described as an international investor.
The off-market deal was brokered by Michael Sherman of Baseline Real Estate Advisors, according to reports.
For Friends fans dreaming of living in the famous building, that dream may have to wait.
According to StreetEasy, none of the apartments are currently available for rent, despite ongoing interest linked to the show’s legacy.
