Two childhood friends in India made a life-changing discovery when they found a diamond while working in a leased agricultural field.
The incident took place in Panna district of Madhya Pradesh, where 24-year-old Satish Khatak and 23-year-old Sajid Mohammad discovered a 15.3-carat diamond during routine work on the field.
The Panna Diamond Office later verified that the stone is genuine, estimating its market value at INR 60 lacs.
Officials said the diamond will be sold through a government-regulated auction in the coming days. Under existing rules, 88% of the auction proceeds will be given to the finders, while 12 percent will go to the government. Such auctions are held every three months in the district under official supervision.
Both Satish and Sajid belong to poor families - one works as a butcher while the other sells fruit. Speaking to local media, they said the money would be used to improve their lives, adding that their immediate priority is their sisters’ marriages, rather than purchasing land or expanding a business.
It is worth noting that Panna district is a well-known diamond belt, where diamonds have been discovered repeatedly in the past, earning the area a reputation as a hotspot for diamond exploration.
