Pakistani all-rounder Shadab Khan expressed excitement over the growing influence of Pakistani cricketers in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL), calling it an opportunity for players and fans alike.
Representing Sydney Thunder, Shadab said the presence of multiple Pakistani stars is giving the league added prestige.
Speaking during a virtual media session from Sydney, Shadab highlighted that while Pakistani cricketers have previously played in Australia, this is the first time such a large number are participating together. “The league is also getting fame because of big names from Pakistan,” he said.
Shadab noted that playing abroad against teammates brings a different feeling. “In our country, we’ve been playing against each other, but now we are doing it internationally. Everyone is looking forward to facing friends in competitive matches,” he added.
Shadab described the BBL as an important platform for him after a five-month hiatus. “BBL is a good opportunity, and I have to make the most of it. Injuries are part of the game; I’m not the only one who faces them,” he said. He emphasized the support from fans, recalling the backing Pakistani players received during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.
Learning from global stars
The all-rounder acknowledged the advantage of sharing the dressing room with cricketing greats like Pat Cummins and David Warner. “We will get an opportunity to learn from them, and it’s always beneficial to be around such big names,” he said.
Shadab also stressed that individual achievements don’t guarantee success. “I shouldn’t assume I’m super fit just by taking Babar Azam’s wicket. We know each other well; the effort will be to live up to the franchise’s expectations,” he added.
Pakistani stars in BBL 2025
This season, Sydney Thunder will feature Shadab Khan, while other top Pakistani players—including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali, and Haris Rauf—will represent various BBL franchises. Their collective participation is expected to draw significant attention from fans worldwide.
