Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday chaired a high-level review meeting on ongoing power-sector reforms, approving key energy projects for Gwadar and Gilgit-Baltistan.
He emphasized that reliable, affordable electricity is essential for economic activity and public welfare in both regions.
The meeting approved major power initiatives for Gwadar Port City, with the prime minister stressing that the region must receive uninterrupted, affordable, and reliable electricity. He said that consistent energy supply would boost industrial activity, investment, and long-term economic development in the coastal region.
Shehbaz Sharif added that with stable power availability, Gwadar Port is poised to become a future hub of economic activities, both regionally and internationally.
100MW solar project in GB
The PM also approved and ordered the immediate commencement of a 100MW solar power project in Gilgit-Baltistan. He said the project must ensure reliable power supply to the region, supporting the welfare and economic uplift of its people.
Shehbaz reiterated that the economic development of Gilgit-Baltistan remains a top government priority, with ongoing steps to promote industrial activities, investment, and employment.
Energy Ministry praised for reform efforts
During the meeting, the premier commended the Ministry of Energy for its recommendations and measures to address power shortages. He directed the ministry to ensure the effective implementation of immediate, short-term, and long-term energy projects.
He said power supply for industries should align with regional and international standards, ensuring competitiveness and stability across the energy sector.
Shehbaz Sharif instructed all relevant agencies to work in harmony to speed up project execution and avoid bureaucratic delays.
He emphasized that cohesive action is essential for delivering results and sustaining the progress of ongoing power-sector reforms.
