A final business plan for meat exports to Malaysia came before the meat export committee, where members said livestock diseases, processing issues and logistics difficulties formed major obstacles to higher exports.
According to details surfaced on Friday, the committee met in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Federal Ministers Rana Tanveer and Jam Kamal, and Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar. Officials from the ministries of commerce and food security, along with public and private stakeholders and advisers, took part. The Minister for Food Security, Rana Tanveer Hussain, said modern slaughterhouses would come up in line with Malaysian standards.
The minister for commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, said the banking sector and the State Bank held an important role in lowering export costs and providing incentives. Special assistant Haroon Akhtar said all stakeholders prepared a practical business plan after consultation. He said the ministries and committee members carried out excellent work in the preparation of the business model and that the package resulted from joint efforts.
The target aimed to raise meat exports to 200 million dollars within three to five years, with tasks for each sector and stakeholder set against a timeline. He said the halal meat sector would receive the status of an industry and that the incentives would place Pakistani halal beef in the global market, raise exports and strengthen the economy.
