Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor - who recently claimed to be strictly vegetarian - has come under criticism after a video surfaced showing him enjoying mutton, beef, fish, and paya.
According to India Today, Ranbir Kapoor is currently busy shooting for his upcoming film Ramayan, based on a Hindu religious epic, in which he plays the role of Lord Ram. During filming, he reportedly announced that he would not be consuming mutton or beef.
His media team also stated at the time that because Ranbir Kapoor would be appearing as Lord Ram, he had decided to abstain from alcohol, smoking, and all kinds of meat, including chicken, for the entire duration of the shoot.
However, a newly surfaced video shows the actor savoring dishes like mutton, beef, fish, and paya at a family dinner, prompting social media users to criticize him heavily.
The clip is from the show ‘Dining with the Kapoors’, created in celebration of Raj Kapoor’s 100th birth anniversary, during a period when Ranbir was already shooting for Ramayan.
Ranbir had recently told the media that he had adopted a strict sattvic lifestyle to prepare for the role of Lord Ram, giving up alcohol, smoking, and non-vegetarian food.
But in the viral video, he can be seen eating fish curry with rice, wild mutton, and paya alongside family members - including his mother Neetu Kapoor, cousin Kareena Kapoor, and her husband Saif Ali Khan.
Social media users directed much of their criticism toward Ranbir Kapoor’s PR team, accusing them of spreading false claims.
One user noted: “Ranbir Kapoor’s PR team said he quit non-veg to honour his role as Ram in Ramayan, but here he is eating fish, mutton, and paya with his family.”
