A United States physical education teacher has secured his third Guinness World Records title after draining an astonishing 1,516 three-point shots in just one hour.
Ryan Martin, a gym teacher at Saco Middle School and a former Mr. Maine Basketball honoree, took to the school’s court Monday night with a target of 1,372 successful shots. He not only met that benchmark but exceeded it by 145, attempting 1,683 shots in total.
Martin credited the support of fellow teacher Nick Wilson and a raucous group of students for helping him push through the physically demanding attempt.
“At around 28 minuteas I had a really bad cramp in my side, and then Nick had the crowd going crazy,” Martin told WGME-TV. “It was like a message from God—perfect timing. They were loud at exactly the right moment, and I fought through it.”
Martin is no stranger to record-breaking feats. He previously set a Guinness World Record by hitting 1,134 three-pointers in one hour from the NBA three-point line, which is three feet farther than the high school line. He also holds the record for the most free throws made in one hour, with 2,494.
