The Delhi Police on Saturday granted permission for a protest at Jantar Mantar organized by the “Cockroach Janta Party,” a satirical digital group demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The group has raised concerns over alleged irregularities and paper leaks in national-level examinations, claiming that the issue has impacted millions of students across India.
Founder returns from US to lead protest
Group founder Abhijeet Dipke arrived in India from the United States on Saturday to lead the demonstration.
He was seen at the airport carrying a copy of The Life and Times of B.R. Ambedkar, symbolizing the group’s call for constitutional accountability and justice.
Authorities reportedly facilitated his movement to the protest site after granting clearance for the demonstration.
Heavy security in Central Delhi
Security arrangements were significantly tightened in central Delhi, with around 2,000 police personnel deployed at and around the protest venue.
Officials also monitored crowd movement as supporters gathered at Jantar Mantar following online mobilization by the group.
Demand for education minister’s resignation
A pamphlet distributed by the group stated that the protest aims to demand accountability, justice, and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The group also claimed that an online petition supporting their demand has received more than 8 lakh signatures.
The “Cockroach Janta Party” was launched as a satirical digital movement on May 16 and quickly gained traction on social media platforms.
Despite its satirical origins, the group has attracted significant attention due to its aggressive campaigning style and focus on exam-related controversies.
