The Power Division has launched nationwide smart metering reforms, which are expected to restore consumer confidence through transparency and accuracy.
Annual savings of Rs25billion are anticipated. The Power Division has designated the financial year 2025–26 as the ‘Year of Customer Service Improvement’.
The decision has been made to install modern smart meters on a large scale across all distribution companies. According to the spokesperson, out of 38 million electricity consumers, 60 per cent are single-phase users.
The cost of smart meters has been reduced from Rs20,000 to Rs15,000. Transparent and competitive procurement is expected to deliver annual savings of twenty-five billion rupees.
