Ocean Art Galleries in Lahore is currently hosting "Contemporary Continuum," a compelling collateral exhibition to the NCA Triennale-2025.
The show brings together eight diverse contemporary artists, offering a ‘thoughtful’ cross-section of the materials, methods, and urgent ideas defining Pakistan's current art landscape.
The exhibition's title proves apt, as it reveals a dynamic dialogue between deeply rooted traditional practices and new, intensely personal artistic languages.
The works on display navigate a wide spectrum of themes, from spiritualism and nature to sharp social critiques.

Artists like Azmat Humayun and Qaiser Khan explore themes of healing and transcendence, drawing inspiration from the natural world and Sufi poetry. In contrast, the works of Maira Hashmi, Sana Mehmood, and Lubna Jehangir offer a critical lens on societal structures, examining feminine agency, abandonment, and destruction.
The exhibition also ventures into deeply psychological territory. Huma Maqbool's pieces delve into the complexities of perception and illusion, while Nabiha Gilani's work addresses neurodivergence.
In a conversation at the gallery, Gilani discussed her work's connection to "calmness, childhood memories, and leaving trauma." Her art, which aligns with her stated goal of exploring self-acceptance and healing from societal pressures, offers a tangible sense of liberation and peace.
Another artist, Zainab Mehmood, whose work focuses on the "life essence" of animals, shared her perspective on the importance of this "connection." Her striking portraits, which prioritize animals over humans as the central subject, challenge viewers to reconsider their place within the natural world.
The exhibition features the distinct work of Azmat Humayun, Huma Maqbool, Lubna Jehangir, Maira Hashmi, Nabiha Gilani, Qaiser Khan, Sana Mehmood, and Zainab Mehmood, and is curated by Tanya Sani.
The exhibition will continue till November 6.
