The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that smog levels are expected to rise in several parts of the country in the coming days.
According to the department, thick layers of smog may cover major cities across Punjab, particularly in the eastern regions. The prevailing dry weather conditions are creating a favourable environment for smog formation, which may reach alarming levels in densely populated urban areas.
Industrial emissions and vehicle exhaust are identified as the main causes of smog. The PMD advised that the worsening air quality could lead to a surge in respiratory illnesses, affecting children, the elderly and those already suffering from health conditions.
Visibility is also likely to be reduced due to dense smog, increasing the risk of road accidents.
The advisory added that the citizens should take precautionary measures to protect their health, especially in areas where air pollution levels are expected to rise.
