The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an advisory warning citizens that giving their SIM card to another person is a criminal offence and may result in legal action.
According to the PTA, the use of a SIM card registered in another person's name is also unlawful. The PTA has stated that responsibility for any illegal activity carried out through a SIM card will rest with the individual in whose name the SIM is registered.
The PTA advised citizens to remain aware of all SIM cards registered against their national identity card and to have any unknown or unnecessary SIMs blocked without delay.
Moreover, the advisory stated that new SIM cards should only be obtained through authorised franchises or customer service centres to reduce the risk of illegal use and fraud.
The PTA urged the public to ensure the safe and responsible use of their SIM cards to help prevent cybercrime and other unlawful activities.
