The government has postponed electricity bills for flood-affected agricultural and commercial consumers from August to December.
According to details surfaced on Friday, these consumers will pay the August bills in instalments between January and June.
According to Power Division sources, the government has waived the August bills for domestic consumers affected by flooding and has extended substantial relief to commercial and agricultural users. Bills for these groups from September to December have also been deferred.
In August alone, relief worth seventeen billion rupees was granted to domestic and commercial users. Out of this, eleven billion rupees were waived for domestic consumers, while six billion rupees in bills for agricultural and commercial consumers were deferred.
The government has provided relief to a total of 2.5 million consumers. Domestic consumers who had already paid their bills have received refunds this month.
Agricultural and commercial consumers have been exempt from paying bills for a period of four months. From January to June, a fixed amount will be included in the monthly bills of commercial users.
The decision was made to support consumers affected by the floods.
