President Asif Ali Zardari emphasised on Thursday the importance of adopting an economic mindset over engaging in conflicts. He underscored the need for all nations to respect each other’s sovereignty.
In an interview with Chinese television, the president affirmed Pakistan’s support for China in all circumstances. He said that the success of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would lead to the development of the entire region, adding that the advancement of ports would generate employment opportunities for young people.
He expressed intent to benefit from China’s experience in agriculture.
The president termed Pakistan and China as “iron brothers”, saying the future of both nations is closely linked. He referred to the CPEC as the flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative, describing it as a source of development and regional connectivity.
Calling his recent visit to China “memorable”, he said that wherever he went, he received immense affection from the people. According to him, love is the way to win a human heart, and the warmth of the Chinese people draws him back to China repeatedly.
President Zardari said that China had earned its place in the world through technological advancement and hard work. Its economy has become stronger, and its citizens more prosperous and content.
He pointed out that Pakistan and China are practical partners, with cooperation expanding rapidly in sectors such as agriculture, energy, railways, education, health and tourism. He stressed that agricultural self-sufficiency is essential for Pakistan’s future security, and that the country is drawing on China’s expertise in water conservation, modern irrigation, and renewable energy.
He praised China’s modern rail system and said that Pakistan wishes to benefit from Chinese railway technology. As Pakistan’s ports are geographically closest to China, their development will open employment opportunities for the country’s youth.
He reiterated that the success of CPEC will bring progress and stability to the region, and that projects involving solar and wind energy generation in collaboration with China are underway.
The President stated that Pakistan has supported China’s position on every international platform and will continue to stand alongside China under all conditions. He said that development is the right of every nation, mutual respect for sovereignty is essential, and Pakistan believes in peaceful coexistence.
