The beggar who amassed millions of rupees by begging in English has died in a traffic accident.
Multan’s well-known figure, Shaukat, lost his life after a road accident. He was rushed to the hospital but could not survive. Shaukat had gained huge popularity on social media for his unique style of begging, where he would ask for just Re1 in English. Through this, he managed to collect millions of rupees.
He often shared bank receipts on social media as proof of the donations he received. His unusual success even drew the attention of authorities, with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) issuing him several notices.
Back in 2021, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) issued a notice to Shaukat after discovering his assets. The supreme tax collection body was taken aback after learning about the assets of the beggar, who was said to be the 'richest' beggar in Multan.
The notice was served to Shaukat after the FBR discovered a Rs1.7 million deposit in his bank account, while his children were enrolled in the city's expensive school. The beggar was also asked how he was able to buy Rs10 million in life insurance for his children.
Shaukat was asked to explain his sources of income and why he failed to submit tax returns. Shaukat had fled to avoid paying taxes, according to reports.
According to Shaukat's viral videos on social media, he was a resident of Multan's Shah Jamal area and earned Rs1,000 per day from begging.
