A tragic road accident on the Hazara Motorway claimed the lives of five members of the same family on Tuesday when their car was struck by a trailer near the Shah Maqsood Interchange.
According to a spokesperson for the Motorway Police, the accident occurred after a speeding trailer rammed into a Toyota Corolla from behind, forcing it into another trailer ahead.
The impact was so severe that all five passengers — three men and two women — died on the spot.
Victims travelling from Gilgit to Islamabad
The victims were identified as 39-year-old Raza Saleem, a resident of Gilgit, along with his family members. They were travelling towards Rawalpindi when the accident took place.
Rescue 1122 teams and Motorway Police reached the site shortly after the incident. The bodies were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Havelian for medico-legal formalities.
Motorway Police said the collision was caused by the negligence of the trailer driver, who was reportedly driving at high speed. Officials have urged heavy vehicle drivers to exercise caution to prevent further tragedies on the busy route.
