A man in Los Palacios y Villafranca, Spain allegedly set fire to a café after staff informed him that mayonnaise was unavailable for his sandwich order.The incident occurred when the customer arrived at the café with his son and ordered two sandwiches.
According to reports, the man, believed to be around 50 years old, requested mayonnaise for his meal. A waiter informed him that the café had run out of the condiment.
After receiving the same response from another member of staff, the man left the premises, proceeded to a nearby petrol station, and returned with a bottle of petrol.
According to local media, the man once again asked whether his preferred sauce was available. Upon receiving another negative response, he allegedly poured the petrol inside the café and ignited it.
Several customers were present at the time. The man, along with others, fled the scene when the fire broke out. During the incident, the suspect sustained an injury to his hand. Police later apprehended him. His identity has not been disclosed.
Café staff managed to contain the fire using extinguishers, avoiding major damage. However, the owners reported minor losses estimated at around $9,500.
The café owners described the incident as bizarre and praised their staff for acting promptly to limit the damage.
