Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Monday issued an alert for low to medium-level flooding in the River Ravi over the next 24 hours.
According to officials, between 55,000 and 60,000 cusecs of water are currently entering the river at Jassar, while the water flow at Shahdara has reached 28,000 cusecs and is expected to rise further.
The PDMA has directed district administrations along the river to take emergency measures and ordered the immediate evacuation of people living in the riverbed areas. PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said announcements should be made through mosques to alert citizens about the situation. He emphasized that no negligence would be tolerated in ensuring the protection of lives and property.
