Doctors at the General Hospital in the Egyptian city of Hurghada have successfully removed a mobile phone from a man’s stomach after emergency surgery.
According to the Red Sea Health Directorate, the patient was admitted in a state of severe abdominal pain, continuous vomiting and extreme weakness. A medical scan revealed the presence of a heavy object in the stomach, which was later confirmed to be a small mobile phone accidentally swallowed by the patient.
The hospital’s director, Dr Karim El-Shabrawy, stated that a team of specialist surgeons carried out an immediate operation. The procedure was completed without complications, and the patient regained consciousness in a stable condition. However, he remains under observation.
Authorities have not clarified how the phone entered the stomach.
This incident joins a number of unusual medical cases worldwide in which patients have swallowed dangerous objects. A similar case was reported in Egypt in 2021, when a mobile phone became lodged in a patient’s oesophagus and was removed through emergency surgery.
