In a significant step towards streamlining the documentation and presentation of parliamentary proceedings, the National Assembly speaker has introduced a new social media policy, restricting how members access media content related to House sessions.
According to a circular issued by the National Assembly Secretariat, members of the National Assembly will no longer be allowed to obtain videos or photos directly from the media wing. Instead, they will now have to access official visuals exclusively through the assembly’s official social media platforms.
The circular outlines that:
-
Selected photos and videos from House proceedings will be shared only via the National Assembly’s official Facebook page.
-
Individual MNAs will not be able to cover the House proceedings anymore.
Officials say the decision is aimed at maintaining the decorum and integrity of parliamentary proceedings and ensuring a uniform representation of the House’s activities in the public domain.
