Punjab’s Minister for Health and Population, Khawaja Imran Nazir, has strongly rejected reports claiming the deaths of 20 infants at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Pakpattan, terming them "baseless and fabricated."
The minister confirmed that a detailed inquiry into the matter has been completed and no evidence of negligence or system failure was found.
He alleged that a political group is spreading false information to divert attention from other incidents, particularly to offset the criticism arising from the Swat tragedy.
Khawaja Imran Nazir clarified that infant mortality due to factors such as malnutrition and premature births is an unfortunate but common occurrence in hospitals worldwide.
He emphasized that the oxygen supply at the Pakpattan DHQ Hospital has remained uninterrupted, dismissing claims that any shortage led to the reported deaths.
“All inquiries have concluded that there was no negligence, and the hospital’s oxygen supply is fully operational,” he said, adding that the narrative of deaths due to oxygen shortage is completely false.
