In view of seasonal bird migration, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has announced a temporary closure of Lahore airport’s runways for three hours daily starting July 1.
According to a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) issued by the authority, the runway closure will be effective from July 1 to September 15, 2025, and will be observed daily from 5am to 8am.
The measure aims to ensure the safety of aircraft operations during the early morning hours, a period when bird activity near the airport is typically at its peak due to migratory patterns.
“This precaution has been taken to avoid potential bird strikes that could endanger flight operations,” the notification stated.
However, the NOTAM further clarified that in emergency situations, the runway may still be used at the pilot's discretion, allowing critical flight operations to proceed as needed.
