Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed on Wednesday the swift completion of the auction process for the Gencos, which are causing losses in the electricity sector.
According to details, the premier had emphasised that, like privatisation, the auction process for Gencos should be broadcast live on the media. Additionally, he ordered the installation of smart meters to be completed promptly, with a report to be submitted shortly thereafter.
While presiding over a review meeting on ongoing reforms in the electricity sector in Islamabad on Wednesday, PM Shehbaz made it clear that ensuring uninterrupted power supply to the public and industries is a top priority in these reforms.
The premier had added that the federal government's project for the solarisation of tube wells in Balochistan has been completed, which will contribute to an increase in the province's agricultural productivity.
PM Shehbaz had directed that the privatisation process of electricity distribution companies be accelerated, and noted that work is ongoing on environmentally friendly and low-cost renewable energy projects.
The premier had instructed that the establishment of electric vehicle charging stations across the country be expedited and that work on projects aimed at improving the electricity transmission and distribution system begin promptly.
The meeting had also included a briefing on the ongoing reforms and projects related to electricity generation, transmission and distribution.
