The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory warning of thunderstorms, rain, and gusty winds across various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) until tonight, while intermittent rain continues to provide relief from the sweltering heat in Islamabad.
According to the NDMA, rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Kohat, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Peshawar, Mardan, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, and surrounding areas.
Authorities have warned that strong winds could uproot weak trees and cause temporary power outages. Dust storms and heavy winds may also damage fragile buildings, roofs, vehicles, and power lines. Reduced visibility due to rain and dust may increase the risk of road accidents.
In light of the weather situation, the NDMA has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, park vehicles in secure areas, and stay away from trees, billboards, and unsafe structures. People are also advised to use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App for real-time updates and safety instructions.
Rain brings relief to Islamabad
Meanwhile, parts of Islamabad are experiencing intermittent rainfall, accompanied by strong winds and occasional thunderstorms. The rain has brought much-needed relief from the recent intense heatwave.
According to the Meteorological Department, the rain spell is expected to continue till June 23. The cooler temperatures and rainfall have brought temporary relief to residents, though visibility issues and wet roads may pose challenges for commuters.
