Pakistan has rejected India’s statements regarding the forthcoming elections in Gilgit-Baltistan, describing the Indian claims as baseless and misleading propaganda.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) spokesperson has termed India’s assertions regarding Gilgit-Baltistan as absurd and reiterated Pakistan’s principled position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
The MoFA spokesperson said India was attempting to distort facts through false narratives and propaganda. Pakistan maintained that India remains in illegal occupation of the internationally recognised disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir and that the Kashmir dispute remains on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council.
The Foreign Office stated that a just and lasting settlement of the dispute could only be achieved through the implementation of relevant United Nations resolutions, guaranteeing the Kashmiri people their right to self-determination through a free and impartial plebiscite.
According to the ministry, India’s remarks regarding Gilgit-Baltistan could not divert attention from what it described as grave human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The statement said Indian forces continued to enjoy impunity under stringent laws, while unarmed Kashmiris faced repression in the occupied territory.
Pakistan called on India to withdraw its forces from occupied territories, reverse all unilateral measures introduced since 5 August 2019, repeal restrictive laws, and allow access to international media, neutral observers, and human rights organisations. It also urged India to enable the Kashmiri people to exercise their right to self-determination in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.
