The Joint Awami Action Committee in Azad Jammu and Kashmir has been declared a proscribed organisation through an official notification.
The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Department of Home has issued the notification, placing the Joint Awami Action Committee and the Awami Action Committee in the First Schedule. The organisation has been proscribed under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2014.
Approval for the proscription was granted by the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. According to the notification, there is credible material indicating activities that undermine peace and security.
The committee has been stated to be involved in creating unrest within the region. It is stated that the organisation has been engaged in actions intended to intimidate the public and create a sense of insecurity.
The notification also refers to allegations of promoting hatred and affecting state peace. The action has been taken under Section 12 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2014.
All alternative names of the committee have also been included in the notification. Legal proceedings are to follow in accordance with the law against the proscribed organisation.
Copies of the notification have been sent to all ministers, the Federal Ministry of Interior, and relevant departments. It has also been circulated to the President, Prime Minister, Chief Secretary, and departmental secretaries.
The deputy commissioners, Senior Superintendents of Police, the Counter Terrorism Department, and Special Branch have also been issued the notification. Instructions have been conveyed to the administrations and police of Muzaffarabad, Poonch, and Mirpur divisions.
The AJK government has stated that peace, rule of law, and public safety shall be ensured.
It has been stated that no organisation will be permitted to endanger public peace, security, or state order.
