Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar directed on Friday that the privatisation process of power distribution companies (Discos) be completed within the agreed timeline.
The directive was issued during a meeting of the steering committee on the privatisation of electricity distribution companies, chaired by Dar. According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the adviser on privatisation briefed the meeting on the latest position regarding the privatisation of Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco), Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) and Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco).

The steering committee expressed satisfaction with progress made so far and instructed the Privatisation Commission to complete all remaining stages in accordance with the approved schedule.
Dar stressed that the protection of consumers’ interests must be ensured at all times. He said the principal objective of privatisation was to improve efficiency, service delivery and financial sustainability.
He emphasised that a strong regulatory framework and effective oversight would remain necessary to safeguard consumers, ensure transparency and maintain accountability.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for Power, the adviser on privatisation, SAPM Tariq Bajwa, the secretary power and senior officials from relevant ministries and departments.
