Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq is among the candidates interviewed for the head coach position of the national Test team, amid mounting uncertainty within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Sources privy to the developments, Misbah-ul-Haq has expressed keen interest in taking charge of the red-ball side and has been in contact with the board regarding the role.
The former head coach, who previously held the dual roles of chief selector and head coach between 2019 and 2021, is reportedly concerned over the lack of clarity surrounding the current recruitment process.
Sources further revealed that the national selection committee and team mentors are also uneasy about the prevailing ambiguity in the PCB.
While interviews have been conducted and meetings held with top officials, the committee has not received any definitive communication from the board regarding the appointment process or future plans for the Test team.
“The selection committee had a detailed meeting with PCB officials seeking clarification, but there was no official response from the board,” said a source familiar with the matter.
“This continued silence has created confusion among selectors and coaching staff.”
Despite the uncertainty, the PCB has reportedly instructed the selection committee to carry on with its work as usual.
