Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Quetta on Saturday for a day-long visit to attend a high-level jirga aimed at addressing the law and order situation in Balochistan.
According to aviation officials, the premier was received at Quetta Airport by Acting Governor Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, and other senior provincial officials.
The jirga, being held in the provincial capital, brings together tribal elders, political leaders, provincial ministers and lawmakers from across Balochistan.
The forum is expected to deliberate on the deteriorating security situation and explore ways to enhance coordination among stakeholders to restore peace in the province.
Official sources said that PM Shehbaz will consult tribal elders and local leadership on matters related to internal security and development, and seek their support for improving stability in the region.
The gathering is part of a broader effort by the federal and provincial governments to engage communities in decision-making processes.
Later in the day, PM Shehbaz is also scheduled to visit victims of the recent Sorab blast, which claimed multiple lives and left several others injured. The Prime Minister is expected to inquire about the condition of the injured and assure them of the government’s support.
Tensions in parts of Balochistan have escalated in recent months due to increasing incidents of violence and attacks targeting security forces and civilians.
The federal government has reiterated its resolve to eliminate terrorism and restore peace through joint efforts with the provincial administration and local communities.
