British-American influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate have been formally charged with multiple serious offences including rape, actual bodily harm, and human trafficking in the United Kingdom, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed on Wednesday.
The CPS disclosed that a total of 21 charges have been authorised against the brothers — 38-year-old Andrew Tate and his 36-year-old brother Tristan — following an extensive investigation by Bedfordshire Police. These charges come amid separate ongoing legal proceedings against the duo in Romania.
According to the CPS, Andrew Tate faces 10 charges linked to three alleged victims, which include rape, actual bodily harm, human trafficking, and controlling prostitution for gain. Tristan Tate has been charged with 11 offences associated with one alleged victim, comprising rape, actual bodily harm, and human trafficking.
The brothers, who were born in the United States but relocated to Luton in the United Kingdom during their childhood after their parents' divorce, have been under scrutiny in Romania since December 2022. Their initial arrest in Romania was connected to allegations of rape and human trafficking, charges both men have consistently denied.
The CPS emphasised that before the Tate brothers can be extradited to the UK to face these new charges, the ongoing domestic investigations in Romania must be concluded.
“The domestic criminal matters in Romania must be settled first,” a CPS spokesperson said, adding that an extradition warrant has been issued for their return.
The new UK charges stem from evidence submitted by Bedfordshire Police, following complaints made by alleged victims within the country.
The case adds to the growing global spotlight on the Tate brothers, who rose to fame as kickboxers before transitioning into social media influencers. Their controversial online presence has sparked significant debate about exploitation and the abuse of power.
