Supreme Court on Saturday approved the bail of Raza Ali, a suspect in the Jinnah House attack case, ordering his release against surety bonds worth Rs200,000.
The case was heard by a bench headed by Justice Hashim Kakar, who questioned the nature of the allegations against the accused. “What exactly is the allegation against the accused?” the judge asked during the proceedings.
The defense counsel stated that Raza Ali was accused of injuring a sub-inspector by throwing a stone at him. However, the lawyer added that the same allegation had already been levelled against another co-accused, Zain-ul-Abideen, whose bail had been previously granted.
Justice Kakar remarked: “How can two people injure the same police officer? Prosecutor, how can the same charge be applied to two separate individuals?”
He further noted that the name of the injured sub-inspector was not even included in the official list of wounded personnel, raising concerns about the credibility and transparency of the police’s FIR.
Based on the available evidence and inconsistencies in the case, the Supreme Court granted bail to Raza Ali and ordered his immediate release.
